Why Do I Want to Go?

Many of the students in the video are choosing to go to college because they will be first generation college students. Many of them also want to graduate from college because of the financial aspect in that it offers more financial security than a regular high school diploma. In my opinion I want to go to college because I, too, will be a first generation college student. However, I will also be the first of my family to graduate from high school. I really want to experience college life because I feel like going to college after high school is a smoother and easier transition to adulthood than just entering the workforce. I think college will expose me to a bigger variety of people than I would have if I just get a job.It will also give me the opportunity to travel in the summer. Even though I do not know what I want to major in I will enter undecided. Once I am there I will surely be able to pick a major that interests me. Although I am nervous about the long nights of doing homework and studying I am also excited to be independent.

Reflection:

I agree with this statement because if you only plan out the dreams you have today then you leave no room for the ones you might have tomorrow. When you learn how to take control of your own life then you will acquire many more attributes like learning how to handle problems that may come your way. This is a lot more important since anything can happen that may get in the way of your happiness so you must learn to resolve it. It is also important to learn how to lead your life so then you can show others how to do the same.

I think that everyone should consider someone else's point of view. When people refuse to do this they are being close minded and that can lead to many problems. 

The PQRST Study Method

The PQRST method. This five step process helps you synthesize reading materials and prepare for a test. This is a good to do with study partners or group, but you could do it on your won. Begin this process several days before the exam.

1. Preview: Look over the course syllabus, your written notes , and the headings and subheading of the assigned reading. This provides and overview of the content and concept you will be studying.

2. Question: Develop a list of questions, including those

• Created from the headings and subheadings in the reading
• From your written notes
• Discussed in class
• Provided at the ends of chapters
• Given on the study guide(if one is provided)
• That you have about the topic

*For example: If a major heading or subheading is "Phase of the Moon" then ask yourself: What are the phases of the moon?

3. Read: Read the assigned reading and your written notes, and look for answers to your study questions. Headings and subheadings should help guide your search. Keep an eye our for other information to add to your list of questions. Reflect on what you read, and connect new material to what you already know.

4. State: In your own words, say aloud and/or write down answers to your study questions. Use mnemonic devices, concept diagrams analogies, and/or other strategies to aid your memory and understanding in this process. A list of study strategies is provided on handout 3.10.3, which you will be receiving shortly.

5. Test: Answer your study questions without looking at your notes or reading, and then check to see if your answers were correct and complete. Your brain needs to absorb and apply new information, so test and re-test over several study sessions.

7 Tips for Test Taking

Try the following 7 test taking tips on your next quiz or test:

1. Skim over the test and estimate the amount of time you will spend on each section.
2. Read the directions carefully. What are you being asked to do?
3. For multiple choice questions, read each answer choice before marking your answer.
4. If you are not sure of the answer, read the choices again. If you are still not sure, move on to the next question. After answering the questions you are sure of, go back to any you skipped.
5. Eliminate the answer choices that you know are wrong.Then choose your answer from the ones that remain.
6. When you are asked to fill in blanks, substitute one of the choices into the blank at the time, and read the resulting sentence(s). What choices sound right?
7. For your essay question, first jot down the main points you want to make, and use these as an outline for your essay. Afterwards, read it through. Does you answer make sense, and is it reasonably complete?

Progress on 100 Goals'

Since the last update there has been some progress. One of my goals is to get straight A's and I am well on my way. I currently have all a's and one c. The C is in Spanish so it will not be that hard to bring it up. The others goals are sort of connected to the first one so I am well on my way with those too. Accomplishing these goals will probably be tedious but I know it will be rewarding.

Progress

So far I have accomplished two of my goals and that is great progress. Many of  the rest of my goals are things that would only get accomplished if I was an adult but so far I am off to a great start. Whenever I do things now I tend to think about how they will affect me in the long run since it takes a weight off my shoulders. I am currently doing well in all my classes and those who have reported grades have said I have an A. I am still trying to study more and trying to spend less time on the internet where I get so easily distracted. I am progressing on that front slowly but surely and my March I will probably be where I want to be.

So far I have not made any significant progress in accomplishing my goals. One of them which is learning how to march I am close to doing since the marching band has started conditioning. Since some of them are related to education I am working on those. I have made some great progress in those areas since I am completing all my homework and having good test grades. I have also started to study more not as much as I had hoped but it is progress.

To accomplish one of my goals I have begun to turn in my work on time. I have also set up time that I will strictly use for study time and homework. With this I am a little bit closer to accomplishing another one of my goals. I have accomplished one of them on the weekend which was to make my personal blog look better. Most of my goals can be accomplished through doing other ones like graduating from college. With getting better grades I am a step closer to accomplishing many of them. Through my instruments class I am closer to completing 3 of my goals. Through watching sophisticated TV I have bettered my writing and that will in turn help me get a better English grade and also help me pass my History AP exam.

Using Winter Break Time Wisely...
1. Wake up early. 

Nothing eats away the Winter break like moping around underneath the covers. Decide the previous day when you will get out of bed, then make sure you follow through.

During the first few days of vacation, chances are that you will relish the opportunity to sleep in. It's okay to do this and give yourself a break because your body will naturally put  itself on a schedule to wake itself up earlier.

2. Maintain Good Health and Hygiene

Brush your teeth and bathe often. Make sure to use sunblock even in the cold, and remember that the only healthy tan is a spay-on! Winter is a great time to get in shape, or stay in shape. Consider picking up a sport or at the very least get outside and have fun everyday.

3.Study

Particularly if you are a high school student, studying remains essential even though the school year is in short recess. Look over last year's notes, or do some research into what next year's courses have in store. When school resumes you'll be grateful that your academic knowledge and skills have not deteriorated you will be ready and not panicking that you doin't know something. Most of you Most of you already know if you have homework, reading, or others research stay on top of it. keep your brain active. Read for school for pleasure, research your own interests, or even just get into crossword puzzles.


4. Follow a routine
However loose, the structure will both motivate you and keep hours spent doing "nothing" to a minimum. Don't play to many videogames and even if it might be cold go out for a few hours every week.

5. Join a volunteer group of some sort.
All communities have some sort of soup kitchen or place where someone might need your help or you can start working on finding leads for the community service you will have to do in the future to graduate, you can help our at your church, or other places in the city.You will stay in contact with friends, have a great sense of accomplishment, stay active, and even help others!

6.Start a summer job.

This may differ depending on  your age. However make sure it is age appropriate and that you will follow through. Some ideas include working at a swapmeet stand, babysitting, lawn care

7.Go to a camp and learn something new

1.What direction do you see the U.S going?Why is it going this direction?

I think that this country will continue to be in the same state that it is in today or go down. I think this because there is no significant increase in jobs and it seems that they will not decrease.

2.Why do SAT scores in the U.S continue to go downward?

SAT scores in the U.S continue to worsen  because teenagers are getting more distracted. With all this new technology they have a whole world at their fingertips so it would easy for them to get distracted from work that they have in front of them.

To try to increase SAT scores schools could form study groups with teachers and tutors.

I agree with this statement because if an immoral man is educated he could get a position of power and belittle others. He or she could also make other's lives stressful. When someone who is educated but not in morals gets an important job he/she might also not perform the job as well since they do not have integrity.

 

Paul "Bear" Bryant

His full name is Paul William Bryant and he was born September 11, 1913. He was am American college football player and coach. He was born in Fordyce, Arkansas to Wilson Monroe and Ida Kilgore Bryant. He recieved his nickname "Bear" when he was 13 and agreed to wrestle a captive bear for a theatre production. He played in the football team for his local high school as an eighth grader and during his senior year he was playing the offensive line and defensive. He later took a scholarship to play for the University of Alabama.

After he graduated in 1936 he began coaching Union University in Jackson, Tennesee. He left after he was offered a job as an assistant coach for the University of Alabama. During the four years he was there the school broke records. In 1940 he left Alabama to become the assistant coach for Vanderbilt University. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor he joined the navy. When one of the ships he was hit was hit he was ordered to abandon it. He did not and he saved the lives of his men. He was lateer honorably discharged and went on to coach the North Carolina Navy Pre-Flight football team. He went on to coach the University of Maryland, University of Kentucky, Texas A&M University, and again the University of Alabama. During his career he won 6 national championships, 1 Southwest Conference award, and was Coach of The Year 3 times.

I agree with this statement because before you can have any success you must first look for ways to get there. Being willing to take those steps shows true commitment. When people are willing to put in time and effort into what they want to achieve then they will eventually get there. Wanting success will not get you success. You must take the iniciative if you want anything to be accomplished. For example, if you want to become a better artist you can not just sit there daydreaming about what it would be like. You must take the first steps like you can practice everyday.

This is a worrying statistic because that means the very few people will graduate and that the school could be in danger of being closed down.

Writing Prompt

• What are some specific reasons you think is happening? How can we solve this problem (concrete ideas)?

I think that this problem is happening because people are lazy. They get homework from 8 classes so they get lazy when they get a lot of homework. They also may also receive projects for many classes so they either forget or can't because they have so much homework. The same thing also happens with tests because they may have a test for one class and a project for another. I think we can solve these problems if we go back to the regular schedule. Something that may also help would be giving less work or to speak with other teachers to coordinate the amount of work teachers are giving their students.

Working Notebook
The working notebook is the daily notebook taken to class. It holds all papers and information needed each day. Any three-ring binder can serve as a working notebook; the nylon zippered type tends to last longer. Your working notebook should contain:

• A portable three-hole punch
• A zippered pouch with three holes to hold highlighters, pencils, pens, clips, "sticky notes", and other small supplies
• A monthly calender
• A ruler
• section dividers for each subject labeled homework, notes handouts, and quizzes/tests
• An assignment book

These items are available at most office supply stores in a three-hole punched format so they can easily be inserted into the notebook. This is important, because if the items are not attached in the notebook, they will get lost in backpacks or left at home or school.

One working notebook for all of your child's classes might be too large for some students, especially if they are in high school. Two medium-size notebooks with two or three subjects in each is an alternative to one large notebook. Morning classes might be placed in one, and afternoon classes might be placed in another.

Whatever alternative noted above that you choose, the important thing is that on a daily basis, you should date, three-hole punch, and file any of the school papers under the the appropriate divider for each subject. You should also note assignments in detail in this assignment book.

HPIAM: ADVISORY PROJECT

Next Tuesday, November 5, bring all your work from all classes in order to show the organization required from each class. You will have time in Advisory to hole-punch and organize your binders, folders, notebooks, etc. so you need to come prepared.

Thanks to the internet, people have more access to more information than any other time in history. People can instantly find information on almost any topic in the time it takes to type a couple of words and click a mouse. But we often know so little about the source of this information, including its reliability and the qualifications of the person who wrote it. If we don't know its source, information is not much good to us.

1. Do people need to know the source of any information before they use it?
2. Plan and write an essay in which you develop your point of view on this issue. Support your position with reasoning and examples taken from reading, studies, experience, or observations.

In such a technological era we can easily look up any information and it is just as simple to deliver and receive it. It is arguable if the internet has helps us in a positive way but what is true is that it has made life easier. The internet gives anonymity to many sources of information since it can't tell when someone is lying and can be manipulated. Sources are very important especially in this era where everybody wants to remain anonymous and hide under a pseudonym. Sources are very important because they let us know how reliable a source is. With knowing the reliability of this information we lose credibility. In order to make strong points we need to be reliable so our sources need to be reliable.Sources are also very important because it lets us be certain that the information that we are is correct. When someone does not have any qualifications then the information they provide may not be correct. Accuracy is very important when trying to prove a point.
