Student Success Statement
Success is dependent on effort.”
-Sophacles, Greek dramatist
Reflection:
I agree with this statement because if you put a lot more work into an assignment than someone else does you will most likely be more successful at that and get a better grade. I think everybody that is or has been successful put a lot of hard work into what they were doing. They also set realistic goals for themselves so they knew they could do it and if they were to have set very unrealistic goals and failed they would have probably given up completely. I also agree because I have seen it in many of my peers. When someone is failing and they want to bring their grade up they usually don’t because if they have gotten that grade many times it means that they don’t try. There are also people who never fail because they always try hard the first time.
How to Take On College Studying
Part 2
Choose Where to Study
Where you should study depends on two factors; the environment in which you are best able to concentrate and the type of work you are planning to do.
·      The best places to study have good light, a comfortable temperature and enough desk space—usually your dorm room, your apartment, or the library.
·      For completing problems sets or brainstorming possible test questions, you may want to study with a group or at least in a setting where fellow students are available for discussion.
·      When you are reading book chapters or working on a research paper, you are probably better off in a less social environment.
Improve Your Study Habits
Here are some simple steps you can take to get a handle on studying:
·      Have a routine for where and when you study.
·      Choose reasonable and specific goals that you can accomplish for each study session.
·      Do things that are harder or require more intense thought at your most productive time of the day.
·      Take breaks if you need them so you don’t waste time looking at material but not absorbing it.
·      Get to know students whom you respect and can study with or contact to ask questions.
·      Keep up with the workload and seek help when you need it.

Reflection:
In the video there was a race going on. The girl in the lead got hurt almost to the finish line. Then the girl who was in 2nd place decided to do the right thing. She saw the she was hurt and helped her to the finish line. She even made sure the other girl was in first place because the was fair. The girl who showed good sportsmanship is Jenna Huff. She won the Extreme "Sportsmanship" award from the US Olympic Committee. To me this girl is a true hero. Not only did she help someone that she was competing against but she let her win first place. That takes a lot of courage to do. She could have easily let her stay there hurting and won the race but she chose to do the right thing and help her. She totally deserved that award. Most people our age or older for that matter wouldn't do that. They would have just kept running. It takes a lot of guts to do something that major just because you felt it was right. There are few people in the world who could tell you that they helped somebody who was hurt just because they wanted to. She is now one of them and can say that with pride.

How to Take on College Studying
Part 1
Develop Good Study Habits
In college, you’ll need to build in the study skills that you learned in high school. The demands of a college class are probably more rigorous than those that you are used to.
You can succeed by knowing what to expect and how to handle it. Think of college as a full-time job, in which you spend 40 hours a week on class, labs, study groups, and doing homework.
Being organized and using time well are essential. Learn more about time management, and use the guidelines below to develop your study skills.
Decide When to Study
Work out about how many hours you need to study every day. Then make a schedule.
·       Figure out what blocks of time you have available throughout
the day, in the evenings, and on the weekends.
·       Consider what time of day you are most alert—there are morning people and night owls—and try to schedule you studying accordingly.
·       Think about whether you do better studying for a few hours at a time or sitting down for a marathon sessions.
Choose The Right!!!
Perserverance

1.Homework
When doing any difficult homework it is important to remember to be perserverant. Even the most difficult work can be done if you are willing to make an effort.
2.Team You Might Play On
When playing for teams in any sport you're teammates count on you to make an effort. They need you to not give up.
3.Instrument You Might Play
I know for a fact that when learning how to play an instrument you need to have perserverance.
4.Tasks At Home
When your parents give you chores it is important to remember to do them. They may be difficult but when you do these things more frequently you get the hang of it.
5.Physical Exercise
When you don't exercise frequently it is harder to start doing difficult things. But little by little these habits will come to you with effort.
6.School Work
When learning new things you need to be perservant so the new things you teacher is telling stick to you.
7.Volunteer Group
It may be hard at first to make time for these things but it pays off.

"A Time I Perservered"

Last year I was playing the clarinet and the teacher needed an alto sax player so I volunteered. It wasn't the same as a clarinet, although they are both woodwind instruments, but I learned to excel at the saxophone too because I never gave up. It really showed because at first I was having trouble learning to play the correct notes. Then the teacher noticed that the saxophone was faulty. She gave me a different one but I still learned to play it because I was perserverant and the outcome was rewarding.

“Choosing the right is always the right thing to do.”
Alex Linares
stock photo : Choose the right path - the road to success or failure
Reflection:
I agree with this quote even though it is a bit redundant. It did get the message across though. “Choose the right” is a great mantra to live by. It is very general as to what doing the right is. Many people follow guidelines their church gives them but some people don’t have a religion but that doesn't mean they are bad people they just choose to live more freely because to them religion is constricting. Anybody can choose the right because we all have similar morals. We were all taught similarly by our parents.

10 Time Management Tips for Students
Tips 5-10
Tip 5: Review Your Notes Every Day
Reviewing helps you reinforce what you’ve learned, so you need less time to study before a test. You’ll also be ready if you get called on in class or have to take a pop quiz.
Tip 6: Get a Good Night’s Sleep
Your brain needs to perform at its peak. Lack of sleep makes the day seem longer and your tasks seem more difficult.
Tip 7: Communicate Your Schedule to Others
If phone calls or text messages are proving to be a distraction, tell your friends that you are only available at certain times of day and not to expect a response at other times.
Tip 8: Become a Taskmaster.
Give yourself a time budget and plan your activities accordingly. Figure out how much free time you have each week before you add any commitments.
Tip 9: Don’t Waste Time Agonizing
Instead of agonizing and procrastinating, just do it. Wasting an entire evening worrying about something that you’re supposed to be doing is not productive, and can increase your stress.
Tip 10: Determine Your Priorities
You can do everything at once. Establish your importance of each item. Then set realistic goals that are attainable.
Choose The Right!!

Cleanliness
Keeping our school clean is of upmost importance. When we keep our school clean it schows that we are proud of our school. Not only does a clean school look good but it helps our learning. When he have a clean school we are less preoccupied and more concentrated on our work. This school is brand new and already it is pretty messy. To keep this school clean we could pick up all our trash after we eat and if we dropped any foor on the table we should clean it up because we dropped it. We could also pick up any loose pieces of trash from the floor because the janitor might miss it.

Student Success Statement
“It’s better to be alone than to be in bad company.”
ANON
Reflection:
I totally agree with this quote because when you are alone you have more free time to think without anybody else’s opinion there to stop you from thinking freely. When you are with bad people they usually want you to become like them so you can “always hang out”. The truth is, they are not strong enough to battle their addictions so they want to drag along others to make themselves feel better about not being as good as others. If you have friends that do drugs and drink an excessive amount of alcohol, ditch them it will be better for you in the long run. When your alcoholic friends tell you that you are boring because you don’t drink just remember that all they want is an alcohol binging buddy.
These people are losing many brain cells and it just looks dumb.
While this guy looks very pensive and is probably thinking very serious thoughts about his life and where he is headed.

10 Time Management Tips for Students Tips 1-4

10 Time Management Tips for Students
Tip 1-4
Organizing Your Life
Managing your time well is an important element of success---especially if you’re a student. If you set priorities that fit your needs and lifestyle, you’ll have a better chance of achieving your goals. Here are some tips for talking your time and organizing your life.
Tip 1: Make a To-Do-List Every Day.
Put things that are most important at the top and do them first. And don’t forget to reward yourself for your accomplishments.
Tip 2: Use Spare Minutes Wisely
When you’re commuting on the bus or train, use the time to get some reading done.
Tip 3: It’s Okay to Say No.
If your friend asks you to go to a movie on a Thursday night and you have an exam the next morning, realize that it’s okay to say no. Keep your short-and long-term priorities in mind.
Tip 4: Find The Right Time.
You’ll work more efficiently if you figure out when you do your best work. For example, if your brain handles math better in the afternoon, don’t wait to do it until late at night.

“Improvement begins with I.”
ANON
Reflection:
Although literally the word improvement begins with the letter I it is trying to say that you have to be the one to improve yourself. It is your life so make sure you get the best out of it. You should always want to improve your life because it can never be perfect but it can be close to perfect. Improving your life takes many steps but with commitment and character it can be accomplished.

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens
Habit 7
Part 2
Habit 7: Sharpen The Saw
   3)    Heart: Always do what is right so your heart, your conscience, will feel peaceful. When you do wrong, your conscience will prick you and create regretful sensations within your heart. When you do what you honestly feel, you won’t have any regrets. Your heart is your internal compass—it gives you direction and discernment. Just like a magnetic compass gives you directions, even true north, your personal compass, your heart, will point you in the true north, the exact directions and paths you need to trod.
  4)  Soul: Study scriptures and other sacred literature daily. In other words, feed you spirit because your spirit needs spiritual food just like your physical body needs temporal food to survive. Pondering, meditating, and reflecting are excellent Soul-sharpening activities. Try writing your thoughts, feelings, aspirations, concerns, and decisions in a diary or journal. Writing helps you focus and make good decisions.
Get into the habit of daily improving your body (physical fitness), your mind, your heart, and your soul.

Student Success Statement
“If you do what’s right, you have no need to fear.”
ANON
Reflection:
When you do wrong you try to cover up your lies as much as possible. But eventually the truth comes out and you look bad. When you know you didn’t do what people are saying you did then you have nothing to hide because you know you’re innocent and that no one will be able to find anything incriminating you. When you know that you are correct you defend your statement as much as possible until others see your point. When you fear that others will find out the truth you know you did something bad. Fear only comes when you don’t want people to find out what you did. But after the fear has subsided then comes guilt that is what torments you until you decide to confess.

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens
Habit 7
Part 1
Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw
Teens should never get too busy living to take time to renew themselves. When teens “sharpen the saw” they are keeping their personal self sharp so that they can better deal with life. It means regularly renewing and strengthening the four key dimensions of life—body, mind, heart, and soul.
1)         Body. Eat wholesome foods, fruits, vegetables, legumes. Avoid illegal drugs, smoking, alcohol, tobacco products, tattooing. Exercise regularly and effectively. Get plenty of rest at night. Get to bed early at night and get up early each morning. “Early to bed early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.”
2)         Mind. Think positively. Read. Study. Think. Analyze. Seek to read a good book each month. Then each week. Ask intelligent questions. Observe. Develop your mind through positive “self-talk.”

Loyalty

What is loyalty?

Loyalty is:

  • Faithfulness
  • Devotion
  • Trustworthiness
  • Constancy
  • Reliability
  • Dependability
  • Obedience
  • Living Above the Line

Be Loyal

  • To yourself-your good name
  • To your family
  • To friends
  • To neighbors
  • To other people
  • To your school
  • To your teachers
  • To your community
  • To your state
  • To your country
  • To the United States Flag
  • To those in authority over you
Reflection:
In the video, Sarah had just hit her first home run in her life. She was playng for Central Washington who was playing against Western Oregon.  Everybody in the stands were clapping but when she ran and went to first base and forgot to touch the base, she went back but collapsed. She had torn something in her leg and couldn't move from the base. Her coach asked if they could bring her back and have someone sub in for her. Th umpire said it wasn't allowed so Sarah would have to be stuck there. Then a girl from the other team decided to help her. Her and another teammate wanted to help her because they thought she deserved it. They picked her up and carried her around the bases only stopping to touch her leg on the base. They showed good sportsmanship by helping an injured girl.

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens
Habit 6
Habit 6: Synergize
Synergy is achieved when two or more people work together to create something better than either could alone. Through this habit, teens learn it doesn’t have to be “your way” or “my way” but rather a better way, a higher way. Synergy allows teens to value differences and better appreciate others. Synergy is the reward, the delicious fruit you’ll taste as you get better at living other habits, especially at thinking Win-Win and seeking first to understand. Learning to synergize is like learning to form V formations with others instead of trying to fly through life solo. You’ll be amazed at how much faster and farther you’ll go. Synergy doesn’t just happen. It’s a process. You have to get there. And the foundation of getting there is this: Learn to celebrate differences.
A good band is a great example of synergy. It’s not just the drums, or the guitar, or the sax, or the vocalist, it’s all of them together that make up the “sound. Each band member brings his or her strengths to the table to create something better than each could alone. No instrument is more important than another, just different.
Choose The Right!!!
Sportsmanship/ Fair/ Just
1) What are some examples of good sportsmanship?
Some examples of good sportsmanship are picking up someone after they fall. You could also shake the hands of the opposing team after the game.
2) What are the benefits of showing good sportsmanship?
Some benefits of being a good sport are respect from the opposing team and your own team. Another would be feeling good inside from having support. A possible other benefit would be that your parents would be proud of your behavior.

3) Why do people demostrate unsportsmanlike conduct?
People sometimes act like that because they feel angry. They also sometimes don't feel like they shouldn't help someone they don't like.  They need to take their anger out but they choose to act rashly and hit others.

What does it mean to play fair, to be fair and just?
To play fair means to play by the rules. To be fair is to accept when you did something bad and to acknowlege some one else's truimphs. To be just means to know the rules. It means not to cheat.
Why is it so important to be fair and just?
It is important because it makes you a better player. It helps your team win. When your team is unfair and not just it makes your coach look bad.

Student Success Statement
“So often in our quest to be more popular and to be part of the “in-group”, we lose sight of things that are far more important.”
Sean Covey
Reflection:

I agree with this quote because sometimes people do bad things just to be popular. They try so hard to be popular but in the end once you are gone no one will remember if you were popular or not but what kind of impact you had on other people. When you want to become popular you lose true friends that would have always been there for you.

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens
Habit 5
5. Seek First To Understand, and then to be Understood
Because most people don’t listen very well, one of the great frustrations in life is that many don’t feel understood. This habit will ensure your teen learns the most important communication skill there is: active listening.
Why is this habit the key to communication? It’s because the deepest need of the human heart is to be understood. Everyone wants to be respected and valued for who they are—a unique, one-of-a-kind, never-to-be-cloned individual. People won’t expose their soft middles unless they feel genuine love and understood. Once they feel it, however, they will tell you more than you may want to hear. People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.
Listen with your eyes, heart, and ears. 7 percent of communication is contained in the words you use. The rest comes from body language (53 percent) and how we say words, or the tone and feeling reflected in our voice (40 percent).
Most people are eager to talk and had rather talk than listen. We have our mouth and two ears. This means we should listen twice as much as we talk. We actually learn more while listening rather than when we talk. Learn to listen and listen to learn.
Listen, really listen, for understanding.
Seek first to understand then to be understood—LISTEN.

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens
Habit 4
4. Think Win-Win
Teens can learn to foster the belief that it is possible to create an atmosphere of Win-Win in every relationship. This habit encourages the idea that in any given discussion or situation both parties can arrive at a mutually beneficial situation. Your teen will learn to celebrate the accomplishments of others instead of being threatened by them.Win-Win is a belief that everybody can win. It’s both nice and tough all at once. I won’t step on you, but I won’t be your doormat either. You acre about other people and you want them to succeed. But also care about yourself, and you want to succeed as well. Win-Win is abundant. It is the belief that there’s plenty of success to go around. It’s not either you or me. It’s both of us. It’s not of matter of who gets the biggest piece of the pie. There’s more than enough food for everyone. It’s an all-you-can-eat buffet.
Win-win always creates more. Perhaps the most surprising benefit of thinking Win-Win is the good feelings it brings on. The true test of whether or not you are thinking Win-Win or one of the 1alternatives is how you feel. Win-Lose and Lose-Win thinking will cloud your judgment and fill you with negative feelings.
Win-Win will fill your heart with happy and serene thoughts. It will give you confidence. Even fill you with light. Think Win-Win or no deal.
Choose The Right!!!
Kindness
Being kind means being sympathetic to others in their time of need. It means being there for a friend when they are hurt. It means helping a person that you don't know because you feel bad for them. One example of kindness is giving back to the less fortunate. When people are in need and you help them you are being kind. Another example of being kind is being there for a friend when they want to do something stupid that could really hurt them or some one else.

“You cannot do wrong and feel right.
It’s impossible.”
Ezra T. Benson
Reflection:
I agree with this statement every person always lives with some kind of guilt in their conscience. They chose to do wrong. When you do notice its wrong and do it anyway you feel bad. When people’s feelings get hurt and you were the cause of it you feel horrible on the inside knowing you caused someone else pain.

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens
Habit 3
Habit 3: Put First Things First
Habit three is about Will and Will Not Power. This habit helps teens prioritize and manage their time so that they focus on and complete the most important things in their lives. Putting first things first also means learning to overcome fears and being strong during difficult times. It’s living according to what matters most. Putting first things first deals with things that are:
Important or not important, urgent or not urgent. Let’s look at the four quadrants of time management.
Quadrant 1: Things that are Important and Urgent.
Quadrant 2: Things that are Important and not Urgent.
Quadrant 3: Things that are Not Important but are Urgent.
Quadrant 4: Things that are not Important and Not Urgent.
1.           Important & Urgent
2.           Important but not Urgent
3.           Not Important but are Urgent
4.           Not Important and Not Urgent

Quadrant 2 is the ideal place to spend our time, doing things that are important but not urgent. Here’s where priorities come into play: The results for living Quadrant 2 are:
1.          Control of your life
2.          Balance
3.          High Performance
So in what quadrant are you spending most of your time? The key is to shift as much time as possible into Quadrant 2 and this is accomplished by planning. Spend more time planning and incorporating the most important things first, things that matter. Keep your eyes on the prize and reach for it.
Choose The Right!!!
Respect
I believe everybody should respect something. It helps us grow as people. It makes us a better person. I think everybody should respect whatever deity they have. But before they respect something else they should respect themselves. They first need to know what respect is. Once they respect themselves they will know how to respect their culture, community, and family.

Student Success Statement
“The only difference between those who have failed and those who have succeeded lies in the difference of their habits. Good habits are the key to all success. Bad habits are the unlocked door to failure. Thus, the first law I will obey, which precedeth all others is—‘I will form good habits and become their slaves.’ ”
Og Mandino
Reflection:
I agree with this statement because if you don’t want to fail in achieving your goals you must first see why others have failed before you. When you know why they failed, try to avoid making the same mistakes as them. To succeed in life you must always have good habits since they make a huge difference in life.

7 Habits of Highly Successful Students
Habit 2
Habit 2: Begin With The End In Mind
If teens aren't clear about where they want to end up in life, about their values, goals, and what they stand for, they will wander, waste time, and be tossed to and fro by the opinions of others. Help your teen create a personal mission statement which will act as a road map and direct and guide his decision-making process.
“Keep your eyes on the prize.” Determine your desired prize and don’t quit until you have realized the achievement of your prize. Then set another prize, another goal or desire that you would really like to achieve. Begin with the achievement of your prize in mid. Visualize and then realize. Start by having a target in mind; know where you are going.
One prize or goal you definitely need to establish for yourself is the prize of an honorable graduation from high school—that you will receive your diploma honestly and with integrity—that you earned it with perfect honesty.

Sensitivity

Basic Skills

  •  Step 1: Express interest and concern for others, especially when they are having problems.
  • Rationale:
  • If you help  others, they are more likely to help you.
Helpful Hints:
  • If you see someone in trouble, ask if you can help.
  • Sometimes, just showing you care is enough to help a person get through a difficult time.

  • Step 2: Recognize that disabled people deserve the same respect as anyone else
Rationale:
  •  A disability does not make a person inferior,. Helping people with disabilities without ridiculing or patronizing them shows that you believe all people are equal, although some people need a little extra assistance.

Helpful Hints:
  • Be ready to help a disabled person when needed by doing such things such as holding open a door, carrying a package, giving up your seat.

  • Don't stare at disabled people or make commments about their special needs.
  • Step 3: Apologize or make ammends for hurting someone's feelings or causing them harm.
  • Rationale:
Saying you're sorry shows that you can take responsibility for your actions and can admit when you've done something wrong.

Helpful Hints:
You can harm someone by what you fail to do, just as easily as by what you can do. Some examples are breaking a promise or not sticking up for someone who is being picked on.

If yoyu hurt someone, apologize immediately and sincerly.
  • Step 4: Recognize that people of different races, religions, and backgrounds desreve to be treated that same way as you would expect to be treated.
  • Rationale:
Treating others equally shows that although people are different, you believe that it shouldn't matter in the ways you treat them.

Helpful Hints:
  • Don't make jokes and rude comments about the volor of someone's skin or what he or she believes.

  • Some people have different customs for doing things. Some people have more money than others. No matter, all people should be treated the same.

Student Success Statement
“Whether I fail or succeed shall be no man’s doing but my own. I am the force.”
Elaine Maxwelll
Reflection:
I agree with this statement because we should all take responsibility of our own actions. When we do something and it backfires on us we have no one to blame but ourselves because we decided to do it. He is not the force because the force could live and thrive inside of us if we let it.

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens
Habit 1
(by: Sean Convey but modified)
Habit 1: Be Productive
Being productive is the key to unlocking the other habits. Help your teen take control and responsibility for her life. Proactive people understand that they are responsible for their own happiness or unhappiness. They don’t blame other for their own actions or feelings. Proactive people realize that the ball is in their court, that they are the captain of their own ship; that they are in control, control of their decisions, thoughts, choices, decisions, goals, actions, and priorities. Proactive people are self-starters; they don’t wait to be told what to do, they press forward with enthusiasm toward the achievement of their assignment, their duties, their responsibilities, their obligations. Choose to do what is right is a proactive decision. Obey the rules. Obey the law. Obey the coach. Obey the school policies. Obey your parents. Obey with exactness, and great things will come to you. Be proactive and take the initiative.
